You Have Power

Embracing Our God-Given Power with Humility

God has given us, as humans, a special gift: power and authority. We are made in His image, which means we have a unique connection with Him. But having this power doesn’t mean we are gods. It means we have a job to do for God, and we should do it with humility.

Jesus as Our Example

God showed His love for us by sending Jesus to live as a human. Jesus lived like us and felt everything we felt. He had all the senses and faced the same challenges. But He used His power for a purpose: to do God’s work. Jesus always remembered His Father in heaven and stayed humble. In John 5:30, Jesus said, "By myself, I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me."

Jesus told us that we have authority too (Luke 10:19). This doesn’t mean we are God. We can do amazing things, like heal the sick or help others, but that’s because God works through us. We are not gods because of this power.

Our Role as Stewards

We need to understand that we are stewards, or caretakers, of God’s gifts. This means we look after what God has given us and use it to do His work. We should stay humble and not become proud of our abilities. James 4:10 says, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”

As I was researching more about our abilities as humans, I came across the perception some Christians have that the ability to manifest, to visualize, and to bring things into existence was not of God, and that people who manifest things end up losing them. I felt people with these thoughts were limiting what God can use us to do as His children. Rather, they should be aware that pride is the issue. Jesus said we should humble ourselves (Matthew 23:12). If you lift yourself up because you have been able to manifest (use an ability given to us all), then He will bring you down. It’s not the manifestation that is bad; it is the pride.

Even with all His abilities, Jesus remained humble. He used His power to serve others and to follow God’s plan. He never used His power to show off or to make Himself look important.

The Danger of Pride: The Story of Satan

Satan’s story warns us about pride. Satan had abilities but wanted to be in charge and take over from God. His pride led to his downfall. Isaiah 14:12-15 tells us how Satan tried to make himself higher than God and was cast down because of it.

As God’s children, we need to remember that our power comes from Him. We shouldn’t think of ourselves as gods or become proud. Instead, we should stay humble and use our abilities to help others and do God’s work.

Staying Humble

Being made in God’s image means we have great potential. But we are not divine. Our power and authority are for serving God, not for making ourselves look important. Philippians 2:3 says, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves."

When we stay humble, we let God work through us. We become His vessels, helping to bring His plans to life. By following Jesus’ example and staying humble, we honour God and avoid the mistakes that pride can bring.

So, let’s embrace our power with humility. Let’s remember we are here to serve God and others. By doing this, we fulfil our purpose and bring glory to God in everything we do.
